Towards a Taxonomy of Spirit-centered Leadership as Reflected in Phenomenological Experiences of Entrepreneurial LeadersThe purpose of this study was to identify elements of spirit-centered leadership, as defined by Beazley (1998), Briskin (1996), Bolman and Deal (2001), Fairholm (1997), Moxley (2000), Vaill (1989) and others, in the life experiences of entrepreneurial leaders. A second objective was to compare the resulting themes against (1) a proposed taxonomy for spirit-centered leadership, and (2) interviews with subject-matter experts. Attributes of spirit-centered leadership became observable in the lives of entrepreneurial leaders and subject-matter experts via thematic analysis of horizonal experiences, a phenomenological approach to qualitative inquiry based on Moustakas’ (1994) modified van Kaam method. A meta-analysis of relevant literature uncovered characteristics of spirit-centered leadership, informing the taxonomy that was qualitatively validated. The study thereby enhanced actionable knowledge (Argyris, 1996) of effective spirit-centered perceptions and practices among entrepreneurial leaders within organizations. ISBN: 9780496833382 |
